About Us

GB Appaloosa & Quarter Horse Stud started out with the purchase of Sunrise Jagady Sugar Chic back in 1980, a gorgeous 5 mth old Appaloosa filly. At the same time we purchased a QH filly and we have been involved with breeding and showing both breeds ever since. Jagady was shown very successfully and the whole family became involved.

Her first foal was Jagadys Jetson, a legend in his time. He won so much that it would fill pages to mention it all. Sadly he is not with us anymore. Click on his picture or name to read a beautiful tribute to him. Her second foal was Jagady Billy Bar Oh who was the sire at GB for a number of years and two of our great mares are sired by him. GB Classique L'Amour is a multi champion Halter & Performance winner as well as a NZ Champion. She is out of the QH mare Jolie L'Amour (now deceased) who was a multiple champion producing dam. Springs Maggie Bar was also sired by Jagady Billy Bar Oh, also a multi champion Halter & Perfomance winner as well as a NZ Champion. She produced three foals for us but sadly Maggie is no longer with us - she will be greatly missed. The first horse we imported from Australia was Mighty Invincible in 1994, an Appaloosa stallion who we stood at stud and competed successfully with, he now resides in the South Island.

In 1999 we imported Blue Suede Zipper, our second QH stallion (we stood Olita Emperor at stud for two years before we gelded him & he was our first QH stallion). During his show career Pine was shown to great success by Jozette, take a look here to see some of their achievements.

In 2000 we imported three Quarter Horses (one was not yet born). Zippin Undercover was one of them and he has been sold on. Arriving on the plane with him was Boston Dreamgirl, a palomino mare by the USA imported stallion Boston Boz. She was in foal to the exciting import from USA Tall Dark N Radical. We are very happy that she produced a filly for us. GB Radical Minnie is her daughter, a beautiful mare with a very successful show career.

In 2002 Jozette imported two young colts from Australia. Both containing fantastic reining and all-round performance bloodlines. Chic Magnet was sold on and is now very sadly deceased, but thankfully we have some lovely babies of his to go on with. CL Okay, Who Dun It stands at stud.

In 2003 we imported Miss Flashy Belle, a lovely young mare who was in foal to Pawsitively Blazing at the time. Sadly the lovely colt she produced broke his leg. Because we lost this colt we looked for a replacement and found Radz Good Lookin who arrived in NZ in 2004. He is gorgeous and was 2005 AQHA-NZ National Yearling Futurity Champion.

2004 also saw the arrival of three more mares - one who was already in NZ. You can see the stunning JBARC Blazing Glory and Ima Dream Too on the mare page.

There is plenty more to tell but we'll give your eyes a rest for now from reading!
